Bogey

Bogey is my first Flatcoat and first performance dog. He has been such a joy because he is so eager to please. Everything Bogey has done, he has done with gusto.

Bogey began his career as a conformation dog. He finished his championship easily, handled by my son who was twelve years old at the time.

In obedience Bogey provided laughs for the judge and spectators with his recalls. He would run full force, sit and slide into a front. His finish consisted of a flying leap that threatened to knock my glasses to the floor.

Despite his exuberance, he finished his CD in two weekends with three first-place wins and scores in the 190's. We are both enjoying Open obedience training and hope to trial in the spring.

Bogey's true love is fieldwork. Even though I've been clueless, Bogey is such a natural, I have been able to just follow his lead. He earned his junior hunter quickly with high marks and many complimentary remarks from the judges. The same weekend he earned his JH, he received a Judge's Award of Merit in Unsteady Singles at the 2000 FCRSA National Specialty. Bogey is now reliably picking up multiple marks and attempting to teach me how to cast.

Despite giving me a broken nose in his excitement, Bogey has been a consistent and reliable agility dog. He has earned nearly every leg in Novice, Open and now Excellent with perfect scores. In almost every case, when he fails to qualify, it is because of a single dropped bar. In less than six months' time, he has earned four agility titles and has one leg towards his fifth.

Just last week Bogey introduced me to a new sport. We began tracking weekly with a small group of other women. It's too early to know how it will go, but I'm sure Bogey will keep it interesting!
