Longleaf Puppy Policies

Puppies - Longleaf plans only one or two litters of each breed per year. We keep or co-own at least one puppy from each litter. Our pups are always from parents that have appropriate health clearances. We breed for soundness, good temperament, and appearance, according to the AKC standard. We give our pups high quality care, intense socialization, and exposure to a variety of life experiences such as assorted terrain, wading pools, leisurely walks, sounds of gunfire, and a lot of human handling. Pups are evaluated at 7-8 weeks and classified as either "Show" or "Pet" potential.

Show Pups - Pups in this category may be used for showing and breeding. This also includes obedience, agility, and field competition. In many cases, we will require a co-ownership agreement. This pup would live with the new owner, while we would be co-owner until contract terms are fulfilled. Details upon request.

Pet Pups - Pet pups are intended to be lifetime friends and MUST be raised as an integral part of the family. A fenced yard is REQUIRED. Crate training is a sensible and humane way of raising a pup and we will educate you on this procedure. Pet pups are NOT to be bred. All pet pups are sold with a spay/neuter contract AND a limited AKC registration. This means that your pup will be registered but cannot produce registerable offspring. Ask your Vet about the healthful reasons for spaying and neutering.

Reservations - These are taken on a first come basis within their SHOW/PET categories. Reservations are confirmed with a completed questionnaire AND a $200 deposit. This DEPOSIT WILL NOT be REFUNDED unless we cannot provide you with a puppy from this breeding.

Guarantees - Our Show pups are guaranteed for 25 months for disqualifying faults. This includes hips, eyes, heart, and bite. We offer replacement from first available litter. No cash refunds will be given. If the buyer wants to keep this pup, we will pay the difference between a Show and a Pet pup price. Our Pet pups are guaranteed to be healthy and well bred at the time of placement. All pups MUST be examined by a Veterinarian within 5 days of placement to verify their good health. Please remember, ALL of the pups are from carefully chosen and cleared parents.

Payments - Deposit of $200 and completed questionnaire due upon firm decision to purchase a pup. Second payment of $300 due when pups are born and pup is confirmed for you. Final payment of balance due when pups are seven weeks of age. Shipping costs (if any) will also be paid in advance.

Selection - Selection of your pup will be based on the order of reservation and by appointment, in that order. We will guide you by personality and appearance matches. Pups will be ready between 7-8 weeks and will have had multiple wormings and 2 vaccinations.

Pups Names - Every Longleaf litter has its own THEME for the AKC registration name. Your pup's AKC name MUST start with Longleaf and finish with the theme. For example, we have had a "dance" litter and two of the names were Longleaf's Waltz Disney and Longleaf's Justa Minuet. Sometimes we use one word for the theme such as "wild". Examples are: Longleaf's Wild and Crazy Guy or Longleaf's Wild About Harry. You will have 28 spaces on the AKC registration form. Leave a space between words, but not for punctuation marks. You may choose any NICKNAME for your dog.

Information - You will receive a COMPLETE puppy folder about 3 weeks before your pup comes home. Please read this carefully. Your selection date and time will be included. Equipment needs and a wholesale catalog is also included. A THEME list is in this package too.

Returns - Longleaf REQUIRES BY CONTRACT that if you are unable or unwilling to keep this pup/dog, you MUST NOTIFY US. We insist on knowing where our dogs are, at all times. We will assist in finding a new PERMANENT HOME. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT. No refunds, of course.

Adult Dogs - Occasionally, we have an adult dog looking for a more personal home life. Prices vary depending on age.

Obedience - We strongly suggest obedience classes for you and your pup. We will gladly try to refer you to some excellent trainers in the Atlanta area.

Titles - Abbreviations on your pup's pedigree refer to the following: CH- Champion, GR- Group Placements, BIS- Best in Show, HOF- Hall of Fame, JAM- Judges Award of Merit, CD- Companion dog, CDX- Companion Dog Excellent, UD- Utility Dog, OTCH- Obedience Trial Champion, TD- Tracking Dog, WC/WCX- Working Certificates, JH, SH, MH- Three AKC Field Titles, OS/OD- Outstanding Sire/Dam, NA/OA/XA/MAX- Agility titles, CGC- Canine Good Citizen, OFA- Orthopedic Foundation.
